Study of structural, optical and electrical properties of bulk, thin films and low dimensional structures for photovoltaic applications. The materials under investigation are IV-IV or III-V semiconductors, and chalcogenide and kesterites alloys (Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4, Cu(In,Ga)Se2, SnSe, SnSe2,...). Investigation of fundamental properties of point defects (transition metals, rare earth,...) in bulk semiconductors and low dimensional structures.

Chalcopyrite and related thin film semiconductors for PV applications. The group is able to prepare full operating thin film solar cells based on CuIn1-xGaxSe2 (CIGS) with efficiencies approaching 10%. In this context the group grows and characterizes all the layers needed: Mo/CIGS/CdS/i-ZnO/ZnO:Al or ITO. For the growth of the CIGS layer the group has developed a unique method combining evaporation with RF-magnetron sputtering;
